I bought NASLite-M2 and was testing it on an old P3 700 with 2 small IDE drives. I loaded the NASLite-M2 OS on one drive (disk-0) and was using the other drive as storage (Disk-1). Disk-1 has self retired so I started building a bigger, better and faster computer and am now waiting for my 2 1T WD green drives to come in. Now for my question what would be the best way to put NASLite-M2 on the new box the old one is not going to be used at all. Can I just move the old drive (Disk-0) over to the new box or reload NASLite M-2 onto a USB thumm. Both boxes have a floppy that I used on the old box to save the configuration files or on the new box can I just save the config files on the same thumm that has the OS on it.

Thanks,
Tom

Maybe I didn't word things right. What I want to do is transfer my license from the old computer to the new computer and eliminate the old computer completely. I want to know what is the best way to do it. I don't mind starting over. The few files I had on the old computer for testing are gone when the second drive on the old computer died. My new 1T drives will be here today and I would like to get going with the new computer.

Thanks,
Tom

I would install NASLite-M2 to one of the new HDDs and boot / configure with that. Transfer of the licence from one machine to another is acceptable in my understanding. To avoid doubt, remove the old installation on the old HDD.

just build the system and install naslite in whatever way you want - log in put the licence in and get a key - then set everything up - saving the config as you go

format the drive - reboot and go from there - just as you did originally - the licence is transferable - you will just need a new key

On the new one I am going to try running off of the CD or a USB Flash drive and save the configuration onto the floppy drive or the flash drive. Any suggestions? The old computer I am going to wipe the drive and test Ubuntu server or desktop on it or a 1.1ghz PC sitting not being used.

Thanks,
Tom

New problem I put the new drive in and booted from the cd I get to the screen where I can install or boot from cd it doesn't matter which one I choose I get this:
...MP-BIOS bug:8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC
Kernel Panic: IO-APIC + timer dosen't work
In idle task - not syncing

It just sits there and does nothing like it is hung up.

Help Please.
Tom

No luck. I have not been able to get an ISO disk made with the new isolinux.cfg file. I tried but made 5 nice shiny silver coasters. I would like to do this myself but I need some direction or the correct steps to follow to get a bootable disk.

Thanks,
Tom

Will there be a new kernel coming for the dual core cpu?

1st - use a CDRW - stops all the silver coasters :D

then get a copy of MagicISO - or similar - something you can alter a file within an iso - open the iso in MagicIso and alter the config file - then save it back to the iso file

work on a copy of the iso file so you still have the original as is

burn the new iso to a CDRW and bob should be your uncle

I must be an idiot to not be able to get this working. I spent my lunch hour try to get an ISO file to work. I tried the suggestions but I failed. I give up.

Thanks Anyway,
Tom

Are you going to be running M2 from the CDRom or install it to a USB key or hard drive?

Two options, I can send you a syslinux.cfg file to replace on your usb key or on the hard drive partition, or i can make you a iso for a cdrom run with apic turned off.

v2.6 has better APIC support, and this is not limited to multiple cpu's.

I only have the latest version of M2 and nothing else. What is V2.6? I would like to run from the cd or a usb drive. I do have a small 18g IDE drive in the old computer with M2 installed could I just put that in the new computer and edit the cfg file?

Thanks,
Tom
