 Post subject: Configuration Lost

So, I've upgraded to NasLite M2 V1.01. The hardware is the same since version 2.6 but now something strange happens.

It seems, I've not tested it fully, apologies, then when I insert the NTP ip address and I save the config, after the reboot the server loose it naslite config and start as has just been installed.
To add strange to strange, yesterday, after having input the NTP IP addr, it worked after the first reboot. I shut down the server for the night and this morning it started vanilla.
Configured everything back, unlocked the license, added the NTP ip addr, after the reboot is vanilla again.

The server boots up from a Compact Flash into a USB reader from a brand new Sandisk Extreme 1GB.

The NTP server I'm using is one of these:
* ntp1.inrim.it (193.204.114.232)
* ntp2.inrim.it (193.204.114.233)

Has this happened to anybody else?

Be sure and save your config after making changes, you also need to reboot for them to take effect. Just because you put in the IP address does not mean it will stick, you have to save the configuration after you make any changes. Again be sure to reboot as well.

Mike, I thank you for the advice but is actually not helping.

You are probably aware that to unlock the product you need to configure the network, save and reboot, and then access via Web to get the unlock code, save and reboot again, to enable the license.

In my previous message i stated that the config gets back to vanilla, as the product was just installed so, as you can see, at least a couple of configurations saves and reboots have been done.

So, thank you very much and I want to make you sure I've saved the config and rebooted the machine.

Just covering the bases here.

I might be tempted to get rid of the FC to USB converter and go with a PATA to CF plug in board like this one.

I use the exact same one my self for my HDD boot and it works perfectly with no issues.

I suspect that the config file is not being written for some reason. The CF card is basically a solid state flash drive with an ATA interface and so will work best if it is used in that way. I always had issues with the converters like you are using now because most are based on chips with really poorly implemented interface standards.

first off naslite doesn't do ntp so unless the server is rfc 868 compliant, you wont get your time adjusted. as far as your usb issue goes, some of those usb to cf adapters are actually a hub and will look differently to the bios as they do to the kernel depending on how the boot is done. that is cold boot or a reboot.

i'd dump that contraption and use something sane like ide to cf as mike pointed out.
