Also, please verify you are running v1.02 In the previous versions, the DAAPD daemon would die from mal formed mp3 files, we fixed it in v1.02

Yes running the 1.02 version.. and checking back now after intiating a new run at fast setting.. it's still not coming up.. also looking at the process monitor.. still no activity???

Try this:

1. Disable DAAP and UPnP in the admin interface, save and reboot.
2. After reboot make sure DAAP and UPnP are disabled.
3. Select a drive from your storage drives that is normally mounted as RW and that has enough room to hold swap, playlist and media database. That can vary greatly based on your content, but you should assume no less than 100M.
4. Configure the necessary options including your primary swap drive, enable DAAP and UPnP, save and reboot.
5. After reboot verify that all settings are correct and that DAAP is running.

Keep an eye on the available room on the drive as the services are indexing the media. If you run out of room, then the service may in fact die due to lack of storage resources.

If that does not help, then the problem may be caused by a bad file. If so, then you may have to locate the offender and email us a copy for testing.

tried that and even added a new hard drive to the system.. and no go..

I've the same problem.
I also followed the advices above (stopped the services, saved, reboot, checked, ... start services etc.).
After a while the MEMORY numbers drop to zero and the well known itunes message appears.

Is there any possibility to get a log from the daap service which creates a list of files it has processed? The last file in the list should be the bad one...

finally, I found the file. It's a protected m4p. I'd like to send it to serverelements. Is there any email address I can use for this?

Other files of the same kind are indexed by the daap service without any problem.
