Background: I have setup SMB boot floppy, network and 3 old ide drive configuration. The non journaled drives are accessible from OSX 10.4.11 perfectly using SMB and muCommander (Ok not perfectly. Finder does not like overwriting). My Ubuntu has a problem writing certain most files and deleting. They both do not see the server broadcasting (no master browser?). They sometimes see each other. I am not currently using windows pc (which maybe why I don't see the server name broadcast) Got a book on SAMBA OREILLY publishers, trying to introduce myself to the ins and outs hidden from former Windows users like myself.
Issues: My first concern is the message during bootup about IDE PCI disk controller resources not being accessible.
Controller messages from SYSLOG:
Jun 3 23:47:47 [2] PCI: PCI BIOS revision 2.10 entry at 0xfd9d4, last bus=1 Jun 3 23:47:47 [2] PCI: Using configuration type 1 Jun 3 23:47:47 [2] PCI: Probing PCI hardware Jun 3 23:47:47 [4] PCI: Probing PCI hardware (bus 00) Jun 3 23:47:47 [2] PCI: Using IRQ router PIIX/ICH [8086/7110] at 00:07.0 Jun 3 23:47:47 [5] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 4 of device 00:07.1 Jun 3 23:47:47 [2] Limiting direct PCI/PCI transfers. Jun 3 23:47:47 [2] Linux NET4.0 for Linux 2.4
My second concern is bios setup.
I setup bios disk settings on auto for CHS. Nanonas did not seem to like NONE. Also set BIOS OS settings to Other.
I am trying to isolate what will give server the proper recognition of the PCI controller.
I will look at the bios again and report the relevant setting options.
