I've had a my NASLite box for 7 months now and it's been great. I bought 3 refurbished Western Digital 250GB drives to use in it and I can't get them to configure.

When I try to configure them I get: "umount: /export/Disk-1: No such file or directory"

And of course:
Failed to configure Disk-1. Disk-1 can be configured only
if it is installed and is a fixed disk. CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, ZIP and other
ATAPI drives that are not fixed disks can not be configured for use
with NASLite.

In NasLite they show up as:

Disk-1 Hardware
WDC WD2500BB-55GUC0, ATA DISK drive
attached ide-disk driver.
host protected area => 1
488397168 sectors (250059 MB) w/2048KiB Cache, CHS=30401/255/63, UDMA(33)

NOTE: Disk-1 is installed and can be configured for use with NASLite-SMBG.

Things I've tried

I've ran the diagnostic utility from WD's site and they all pass the long test without any errors. I also did a low level format on them and that didn't help either.

I've tried the cables set on master/slave and also cable select. Neither helped. I even hooked up a single drive as master, it still wouldn't configure.

The drives are set to NONE in the BIOS.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I suspect the drives are absolutely clean and unpartitioned. Use any means to create a primary first partition on them regardless of type. That should allow the NASLite floppy to properly configure the drives.

Hope that helps...

Thanks Tony! That worked. I ran FDISK on them and they configured fine afterwards. If that's in the documentation I missed it.
