Is there any way to get the hard drives in NASLIte or NASLITE+ to spindown after a period of inactivity to save power & reduce noise?

I realise that there will be a spin-up delay on the next access, but in my application (back-up & disk mirroring) there are looonggg periods between server accesses but I don't really want to power the unit down & force folk to walk to another room to power up just to do a back-up.

Nothing in the current version of NASLite supports this.

Maybe in version 2.....

NASLite does not include any specific procedures or options to spin disks down, but by disabling the NASLite SMART support (Latest release of +) one can enable spin down via the BIOS.

In order to perform SMART, NASLite needs the disk to be active. The SMART check is performed every 5 minutes when enabled. By disabling SMART, NASLite will not spin the disk unless data transfer is requested. That will allow spin down via the BIOS.

Hope that helps.
