I am interested in using a single drive server, but mapping several different drive letters pointing to different directories on the single drive from my Windows boxes. Is there a way to do this?

since you map the driveletters under windows, i think this shouldn't be a problem (if i understand correctly what you wanna do)

naslite disk: map a b c and d
under windows: make network connection (assign driveletter)

curiously enough i can only make one for a drive, not a map/folder
but i think it should be possible though

it depends on which windows version also

In NASLite there is no way to export multiple shares on the same drive. NASLite v1.x will export a single share for each available drive as Disk-1, Disk-2, Disk-3 and Disk-4.

...to either do a mapping to a folder within a shared directory as a drive letter then?
I looked at the net use command and it did not work.

Thanks for your help!

I believe you can map to any directory of a shared drive; I've mapped two drive letters on my XP machine at home to subdirectories of my NASLite server shares. In Windows Explorer, Tools => Map Network Drive and then you can browse right to the directory you want to do.

If that doesn't work, it might help if you tell us which version of Windows you're using... it might be different for different versions.

(only i couldn't do it under 2000..so my guess is: it's only supported under xp..could be wrong though)

Unfortunately I don't have a Win2k machine to look at. I did find these instructions for mapping drives in Win2k on another board:

Quote:
To map a drive, right-click my computer and select map drive. Choose a drive letter, enter the path, and make sure "reconnect at login" is selected.

That's a little bit different than that XP procedure I mentioned, although... cool! You can do it that way in XP too. :)

The mapping is in Windows98. I was able to net use to the share and directory in XP, but not 98. Perhaps it is a limitation of 98?

I can right-click on "My Computer" in Windows 98 and select "Map Network Drive" and it seems to work OK. Have you tried it that way? I'm under the impression that Net Use is kind of an NT-and-up sort of thing.
