Hy,

i saw that there where a "new" Naslite bootable (?) CD. Cool thing!
But I have always still serveral wiches:
- still USB Support
- still SCSI or support for more then 4 Harddisks (second or third IDE Controller or so)
- Still Support for Files over 2GB size

I know that some of the features could go over the 1,7MB size, but how about the idea to build the Disk WITH the CD and then work WITHOUT config utils or so. When config, do this with the CD...

I think a CD is a very good idea, but without some of this feature i think $19.95 is a bit to much... How about this?

you will have to wait for your wishes some longer

the cd is not to run naslite from but to CREATE the floppy's
(yes a knoppix cd would/could do the trick also)

[edit]
by the way, filesizelimit is 2 TERAbyte...not 2 Gigbyte

concerning the "utils and configs"
a certain amount of drivers and "stuff" will be needed on the disk for an 'as large as possible' compatibilty with as much as possible pc's (that can fit on the floppy...the drivers that is not the pc's :) )

Hy Losha,

yes, i know that the CD CREATES only cd Disks ;-)

Some threads down we discussed the 2 GB FILEsize (not the Volume or HDD Size). Therefore i think this was now fixed or so ?!

I know that there would be to much utils and stuff if i had all of my wiches one a Disk. I think 2 or maybe 3 would this then be. So my idea was to put only the necessary stuff on it and the config tools and all that is not needea letting on the CD.
When there is something to change to the Disk the "Config-Tool" on the CD must handle that... only one idea ;-)

i am also talking about filesize
when i look in the "about" box it clearly says
Quote:
Large partition and file support
Partition size limit of 16386 GB (16 TB)
File size limit of 2048 GB (2 TB)

that is with the 1.3 version of naslite

for the rest, i didn't understand at first what you meant
i think i got it now :p

since i'm not working very much with linux i can't really help with that one
but putting the config stuff on cd and only running the "usefull" stuff from floppy could be a great idea indeed
but it would mean a total rewrite from scratch since you would have to make the kernel from cd and than write it to the floppy (i guess)

File size is limited in the NASLite-SMB version because of a problem w/ the SAMBA version used. With it, you can only have a 2 GB file size.

In the FTP and NFS versions, you can have larger sizes.

The current SMB version will allow for a file up-to 4GB. Losha is however correct that the “About” should be a bit more clear. Although the filesystem is capable of the noted partition/file sizes, Samba tops out at 4GB.

I’ll make a note to correct that in the next NASLite release.
