NASLite Network Attached Storage

Hello,

I've just installed NaseLite-SMB on a Pentium II 233MHz with 128MB RAM and a 8GByte HD just for testing purpose.

Later I want to build ab a system with 4 x 250GByte.

Furthermore I've a Windows XP system with SP2 installed.

Now I've the following problem.

I can map the NaseLite disc to a drive letter on the XP system. Also I can browse to the disc using the Explorer. As far as good no problem.

But if I copy a couple of files it starts copying the files and after some time it hangs up an an error message occures that the network drive is no longer available.

try mapping the drive by IP address and not NetBIOS name and report back.

I still haven't work out how to do that

say your ip address is 192.168.0.1 and the name the box is NAS

start run

\\NAS\

goes to that box

but so does

\\192.168.0.1\

Just crashed again

I set up some new shortcuts, using the ip (\\192.168.0.10\disk-1 etc...)

Still got a crash when moving big files.

hmm its obviously not that then.

I suspect the dev team would be best suited to help now

so I've figured out the problem.

A network card was the problem. Nothing to do with the NASLite. Seems that the network card does have problems with auto negotiation. In the past this wasn't detected because the computer was used for internet only and the LAN card wasn't used for huge data transfers.

I've installed an other LAN card and now all works fine.

I'd better dig out another LAN card then

I had problems with the Onboard 3com nics on old dell. I swapped that out with a Dlink I had laying around and things were alot better.

I also think there was a problem with the NIC
On my Terabyteserverworks an old 3COM Nic. All works fine.
