All of the sudden I cannot access my NAS lite storage from XP pro.

I get the message:
You do not have permission to access \\NASLITE\Disk-1. Contact your network administrator to request access.

The only thing changed is the recent Windows update. I can telnet the NAS from that computer. When I start a VMware Workstation session on that computer, booting a not yet updated XP Pro configuration, the disk is accessable without problem.

Does this mean that with the windows update from last tuesday NASLite is no longer usable with windows?

Patch KB2536276 released on June 14th, 2011 causes a Windows XP machine to be unable to connect to a samba share. Uninstall it on the Windows machines and all will work OK. See other threads on the subject in this forum.

Uninstalling Patch KB2536276 did the trick.

As I don't like my system to be unpatched, and I guess that Windows7 will present the same trouble, I will have to look for another NAS option.
Too bad, I have 3 old computers with NASLite running. It seemed the perfect solution. Hardware that no one can use anymore, 3 big Pata disks per computer. It served me very well for a number of years.

Anyone a suggestion for a replacement of NASLite?
