Hi guys,
Firstly I would like to say thanks to all the guys on this forum whose posts in other topics helped me sort out my problem.
I actually had 2 problems and none of the posts mentioned my first problem.

After a sudden power outage, I rebooted my NAS server it boot from a floppy.
1st drive mounted OK but the second drive didn't.
Rebooted into the BIOS and it couldn't see the first IDE channel. My second disk was on the first channel.
I just happen to have another PC lying around gathering dust, so tried it in there. The Bios saw the disk drive straight away. Booted NAS lite on this but the drive was still unmountable.
Back to the original machine and this time just connected the faulty drive and a CD rom drive. Booted RIP LINUX from the CD Chose the second option.
Then from the command line I typed
fdisk -lu
to list my disk drives
Saw the drive which was good news
Then typed
e2fsck -t /dev/hdb1

It came up with a few errors which I answered yes to. Halted the system. powered down
Connected both drives to the same IDE channel rebooted NAslite from the floppy and it all came up with the 2 drives. All the data looks like it is there. But we will have to see in the next few weeks.
Most of the data on this drive are my children's DVDs. So they will be happy again.
Will keep you posted as to the results.

So I to summarise I had a bad IDE channel, which may have caused the faulty drive.
So many thanks to the posts that gave me the commands to sort out the drive problem.

Actually, in the case of a not so graceful shutdown as your server suffered NL will automatically run an FS check and try to fix any inconsistencies it finds. This can take hours for the larger disks. This is one user interface issue that NL suffers from, a lack of information for the user when an FS check is in progress.
