Just installed a new Mac Pro running Leopard. In the Finder
I can see naslite-smb; but when I click on it the system tells me
the connection failed. I cannot see any of the 4 disks that are
in the NasLite. I can get into it from a browser by entering in
the IP address. Any suggestions on how to make the Mac
see the NasLite?

This has been discussed before, so search the forum. You'll have to touch up the conf on your MAC to allow anonymous access to smb/cifs shares.

fix the problem. only 2 hours of looking.. :?

I found this over in the Tiger discussion area at Apple's website, and thought I would share it. If you are having trouble mapping network mount points from a server using an older version of Samba (a.k.a. SMB or Windows sharing), here's a workaround...

Tiger now assumes that your SMB server accepts encrypted passwords. Older Windows NT and Unix/Linux servers running Samba (versions older that 3.0) are configured to accept plain text passwords. It is highly recommended that the severs be reconfigured to accept encrypted passwords. However, below is a fix to tell Tiger to send a plain text password for authentication. This assumes you have a working knowledge of the Unix command line:

Is naslite falling short on Mac os X?

No, you are being put through the ringer by Apple since they assume that any machine you connect to is going to be running encrypted passwords. Apple fails to include a bullet in their configuration GUI to allow one to enable or disable encrypted passwords for SBM/CIFS shares or access to one.

NASLite is this way to minimize the complications of accessing a file server that one would normally run into with other OS's
