What is the difference between the NasLite FDU and NasLite+? Is the differences that with NasLite FDU you have to switch floppies dependingupon which type of server, while with the + version it all runs from the CD-Rom? This is probably a dumb question but... Do I need to have linux on the machine or just boot from the floppy or CD , configure and then the other PC's in the house will see(witht some tinkering) the NasLite box.

Thanks in advance.

The NASLite FDU (Floppy Disk Utility) is a self-contained, bootable CD-ROM that allows you to make the floppy disk versions of NASLite on any capable PC. Due to the required 1.72Mb format size of the floppy disks, many people find it difficult to make the floppies outside of the Linux environment. There are 6 floppy disk versions, each supporting Mbit or Gbit networks and SMB (Windows Networking), FTP or NFS protocols.

NASLite+ is a CD-ROM bootable Operating System that simultaneously supports all of the features of all NASLite floppy disk versions combined.

All versions of NASLite are self-contained Operating Systems and don't require any operating system to be installed on the NASLite server PC.

I hope that this explanation sheds some light on the capabilities and versions of NASLite.

Tony....

So if I understand correctly the advantages of the NasLite+ CD version are as follows:
Allows switching between server types (SMB, NFS, etc). Without floppy swapping.
Eliminates posible difficulty of creating floppies in a (Windows) non-linux environment. (I have no linux knowledge, yet.)
If this is correct my order is forthcoming.

Thanks.

That's correct.

Once NASLite+ boots, you can access all storage drives via SMB, FTP, NFS and HTTP simultaneously from as many PCs as your want.
