I'm looking for an easy way to implement a primary NASLite with a secondary NASLite server for backup functionality. Anybody have a quick way to add in rsync or DRBD or similiar to keep two boxes synchronised in case of failure? I'm not worried about having the secondary box be able to pick up automatically in case of failure of the first box, at least, not yet. I just want the data to be duplicated on a second box that can be quickly reconfigured to fill in for the first box in case of hardware failure.

Thanks,

Sean Harbour

Hi Sean, the Rsync option has been brought up in the past for backup and it was discussed again today after reading your post.

We're exploring the possibility of Rsync in the lite series, but im fairly confident it will be available in the pro series for mirroring purposes.

Yes, rsync would be a good thing in the lite version. Setup automatic failover in your pro version, and you'll really have something to market.

In the meantime, what would be the recommended way to add rsync to the existing lite version? Does anyone have an add on package that extends the built in administration tools?

No way to directly add it to your NASLite server, you could mount your naslite volume on another machine running Rsync and backup from there.
