NASLite Network Attached Storage

Hi,

I've beenrunning NASLite SMB successfully on an old AMD K6 with 1 IDE Drive for over 2 months. Last week, I've had a power cut and since then I cannot get my server to work again.

The boot sequence takes ages and finally fininshes with the following message:
UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY: Run fsck manually (i.e. without -a or -p options).

Is this something I can do with any of the NASLite floppies or do I need to run another Linux to do this?

After much searching, I've found a great tool to solve my problem.

It's called the "the (R)ecovery (I)s (P)ossible Linux rescue system". You can download it from http://www.tux.org/pub/people/kent-robotti/looplinux/rip/

This is a CD-ROM ISO image creating a bootable Linux CD. Once loaded onto the computer with the "unexpected consistency" problem, all you have to do is login (root) and then type "e2fsck -y /dev/hda1" (assuming your hard drive is number 1). It will then carry out a filesystem check and correct any errors found automatically.

Once finished, remove the CD, reboot with the NASLite floppy and away you go!

Try it with the RIP-linux but got every time a Kernel-panic message ???

Finally a try some solution i find in the forum but nothing helps.

Naslite can' t still mount the disks when bootup.

I think a get back my Netgear SC101.

PS. i try also with a friend on a Linux-machine to get my data back, absolutely nothing!

I am a noob (no Experience at all) with Linux, but my problem is with Nas_Disk-2, so I would run this on "hda2" ( assuming my hard with the problem is number 2??)??

Will attempt to follow your instructions, but I need to swap an optical disk drive in to the server .

Booted from ISO ran "e2fsck -y /dev/hda1" and "e2fsck -y /dev/hda2" to no avail. received the following message That really scares me since I do not understand this at all.

" e2fsck: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/hda1.
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem. If the device is valid and its really contains an ext2 filesystem ( and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock: e2fsck -b 8193 <device>"

Please post the system log 6 minutes after the machine boots. Also, what version of NASlite are we discussing?

That seem to have worked I answered yes to eliminated the corrupted sectors. THis is the state of my server: Disk 1 and Disk 3 are recognized Disk 2 is NOT.

While attempting to add an additional Disk 4 NAslite found my DISK_2. I can access the disk in Windows from my network. About 99% of the data is there. Time to do a needed back_up as soon as DIsk_4 is configured.

Excellent news...... but reinforces the first rule of data safety - rely on a single backup (or backup medium)

That said, I've got around 350GB to back up on my server.....
