I assume any operating system that could read a file over 4GB would be able to write one as well. Are you trying to write the file from one OS and read it from another? If so which OSes and what is the source of the large file, eg a DVD, NTFS partition etc...

LFS (Large File Support) is enabled in NASLite, so it will handle files greater than 2giB's in size.

Yes, 2 GB up to 4 Gb are ok. Tried 9 GB file from Win XP Home.
when reaching 4 Gb, the OS asks for overwerite....
I will try XP Prof. asap, but have no great hope.
The NAS Disk was checked, fresh formatted, empty and showes up as NTFS with full capacity.

Reminds me of early samba experiences.

I came across some limit too. Can't remember if it were at
2 or 4 GB's, but backing up some hdd with Acronis
True Image (which uses some kind of Linux under the hood i
believe...) to a NAS-Box failed because of the filesize.
In that special case thats not to bad, because True Image
allows splitting by itself, just thought you would like to know.

The 4G file size limit is caused by a deficiency in Samba 2.0.10. Although compiled with the proper 64 bit offset, it seems to top out at 4G. Later versions of Samba handle LFS correctly, however are too large to fit on a NASLite floppy.

Is there an update for the disk-version to solve the problem with files above 4gb?? or do we have to wait for a cd- or hdd-version with enough space for the new samba ??

Ok, that seems to be the end of the line.
Time to say goodbye.

Dear all,

is there anything new about files > 4 GB ?

what does that mean:

"Later versions of Samba handle LFS correctly, however are too large to fit on a NASLite floppy."

with my actual NASLite+ v1.x CD-ROM it is not possible to use file > 4GB

best regards
Dieter
