I was just playing with a Naslite server -

I have left the machine up at home and I am trying to access this from outside of my local address space.

From what I have read in the Docs and can remember, I did not set a Default Gateway when configuring, and the Naslite box does not appear to be accessible and does not respond to a ping...

Tracert's stop at the Gateway for that subnet.

Am I doing something wrong or overlooking something - or is this a limitation ? Can the limitation be overcome ?

Many thanks

Jason

Hi Jason,

You are not doing anything wrong.

NASLite simply does not allow configuration of a default gateway. Alto that can be viewed as a limitation, the reason we did not include a gateway is because NASLite is a community server and does not provide any user restrictions. Since many people have home networks with broadband routers that are configured as a gateway, it is very easy for someone to inadvertently expose their private content to the world.

That is the reason there is no gateway configuration made available. In future versions of the NASLite line, after implementing user management, you’ll most definitely see configuration for a common gateway, but at this time we opted not to include it.

Hi Tony,

Aha - thought this may be the case :o) I guess the addition of a default GW would require a change and recompilation...

...for now I guess I could export this storage onto a machine which is reachable and use that as a proxy.

Any news on the next release with user management / ACLs ?

From what I have seen so far (Only used FDU - have purchased Plus but not set up a machine with a bootable CR) NASLite is great !!!

If you need any beta testers...

Reagrds,

Jason
