I am trying out NASLite floppy version and if I can get it to work I shall buy the full version, however - I cannot get my PC to communicate with the NAS server. My configuration is:-
Dell 5150 running Windows XP BLOCKED_WORD via Netgear WGT624v3 to a home-made AMD Athlon system with 2 ide drives and a Belkin 10/100 NIC (uses the Realtek 8139 chip)
The two systems boot-up okay and the NAS unit eventually gets a link-up to eth0 but I cannot access it via Telnet or HTTP.
I re-installled XP and eventually, after re-setting the NIC to 10 half duplex, I could access the drives on the second unit.
The cables are patch not crossover and other PC's I have tried work okay on the router. Is there a way of setting the NIC with NASlite to run at 10 half duplex or do I have to try another NIC?

Hmmm, seems that no-one knows how to fix my problem.

Would have been nice to get one response.

the sarcasm flows.

Perhaps you confuse this with something you paid for.

Anyhow...

something is very wrong if you need to set half duplex. Replace/swap all the kit with spares or try different combinations until you no longer need half duplex.

Thanks for your reply fat, at least my sarcasm prompted a response.
What I am trying to do is, allegedly, something simple which is great because I am not an network expert or even something approaching it. When the instructions are followed to the letter for the router set-up as well as the NASLite installation but the result is non-communication, there must be something wrong and all I am trying to do is to get some help.
The computer on which I am attempting to setup as a NAS unit worked fine when connected to my cable modem. That PC was replaced with a Dell and, at the same time, I installed a wireless router (said Netgear WGT624v3) for easier communication with a laptop. After installing NASLite from the floppy, the message arrived, "eth0 100 full duplex, autonegotiate" so you would think it's working. On the Dell, I can log-on to the router and see the second device connected. I cannot ping it or run Telnet to access it, as the instructions tell me I can. Incidentally, if I connect the laptop by cable, it's fine.
So, during the time waiting for any responses, I abandoned the NAS route and re-installed XP on the old machine and Lo!, the same problem occurred. Luckily, with windows, the speed and duplex can be set manually so trying each one in turn, I eventually got communication between the two at 10 half duplex. I have subsequently updated the NIC driver with the latest available from Realtek and I can now get communication at 10 full duplex. As the NASLite software does not allow any manual intervention for NIC settings, I cannot get things to work. If the NIC needs changing, what do I get? I have no 'spares'.
Finally, I am not confusing this for something I paid for. I have every intention of buying the full software providing I can get the free version to work. This is something that I and many people do - try free or time limited versions before deciding to buy.

Hi,

The V2 has better support for the various cards, maybe the full version will solve your problem?
