First of all, I'm a newbie, but I HAVE tried to find the answer to my question in the forums.

I have NASlite SMB set up and running. I can access it by http and telnet and can map the single active drive on the server to a drive letter on my Windows XP Pro computer. This seems to display as expected as the V: drive.

The problem is that Windows seems to see it as an NTFS drive and very much smaller than the 10 GB that it is. In addition, I cannot copy any file to the NAS drive. When I try to do so, I get an error message that says:

"Cannot copy filename: Access is denied.

Make sure the disk is noy full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use."

Can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Do I need to add support to Windows XP to read ext2 partitions?

Many thanks,

Raymond

I got that message after I checked the file system in telnet. Here are a couple of things to try.

First restart the NASLite box (make sure you have saved your config info!)

Second, make sure you mapped the correct folder to the network drive. It should be \\NASLite\disk-1. If you just mapped NASLite or one of the other "info" folders it won't work.

If it still shows the drive as much less than 10GB I would suspect a BIOS issue. Set the drive to NONE or NOT INSTALLED in the bios. Then reconfigure the drive in NASLite (this will erase anything on the drive).

The drive will show up as NTFS. That's just how WinXP shows SMB drives. You don't need any e2fs stuff on Windows.

Thanks for the suggestions. Everything seemed to have been done just as you suggest. The correct folder had been mapped etc.

In the end I decided to re-configure the shared disk just to be sure and, sure enough, everything now works. I'm not sure what went wrong originally.

Thanks,

Raymond
