I must say your NASLite is pretty cool. I was looking for something like that for ages. However, something is bugging me. I would like to open my NAS also for remote access to my data due the internet. Since the ftp allows anonymous access I cant do that.
Is it possible to add a user managment in the near future?

thank you :)

btw:

2) Instead of telnet, is it possible to add a ssh daemon?
3) Could you upgrade vsftpd, so we can use sftp?

Firefighter,

I do believe Tony has indicated that user management will someday be availible, but in the "pro" (paid) version.

You could, of course, put the NASLite box behind a properly configured firewall, and only let in certain users or IP addresses.

Hope this helps,

Tim

Tim....

I had asked a similar question about putting NAS Lite FTP behind a router. Tony replied back that it is not possible. FTP is only usable on the local network. To see his reply search on my name or "Using NAS Light FTP Behind a Router"

This is an item that I wish was included. It would allow me to share files with freinds and family rather than shuffling email. But I understand Tony's position on the security issue.

the lack of default gateway makes it tricky but not impossible.

But simply put dont do it. LAN ftp servers and public ftp servers are completely differernt beasts. Expect at least 10 scan/hack attempts a day if you dont source port filter via the firewall (which is a pain to maintain).

Definately get another box, install proftpd and map some drives. Much safer
